SMALL ARMY ENTERTAINMENT is a Vancouver-based film, television & media production company led by award-winning Executive Producers Sean De Vries and Stephen Sawchuk.

SEAN DE VRIES

Owner & Executive Producer

Sean is an award winning producer, writer, and director. Over the past 15 years, he has created and run more than 200 hours of television for major networks across Canada and around the world. He is a specialist at creating and running large scale reality, social experiment, documentary and real estate series. Credits include: Bachelor Canada, Border Security, Love It Or List It, Jillian and Justin, Urban/Suburban, Cheer Squad, Cupcake Girls, Liquidator and many more. Sean has also launched a number of Online Platforms, International Ad campaigns and is experienced in product integration for television. Clients include tourism agencies across Canada, USA, Mexico, Tahiti and the Caribbean. He has also worked with major brands including Nutrl, Nestle, Sunwing, Molson, Colgate and many more. In a previous life, Sean was a Senior Writer/ Reporter for CBC, and a London-based journalist for BBC World Television.

STEPHEN SAWCHUK

Executive Producer

Stephen Sawchuk is an award-winning Writer/Director/Producer based in Vancouver, British Columbia with a wealth of experience executing large-scale scripted & unscripted projects. With over a decade of experience under his belt, Stephen has produced well over 100 hours of television for networks and streamers including Apple TV, MGM, Peacock, HGTV, E, Lifetime and many others. Stephen has had the pleasure of working with Academy Award-winning and Grammy-winning A-list talent, and has produced projects across North America, the UK and the EU. Select credits include ‘Sidney’ (TIFF official selection, feature film), ‘Women Who Rock’ (4 x 1 hour docu-series), ‘Baking Spirits Bright’ (TV Movie) and ‘Love it or List it Vancouver’ (75 x 1 hour lifestyle series).

ALEXIS ADAMS

Producer

Throughout her nearly 20-year career, Alexis has worked as a versatile Producer and Story Editor in genres ranging from true crime, lifestyle, reality, documentary, award shows, scripted projects and commercials. Alexis’ work has taken her across the globe, and select credits include projects for CTV, Fox, MTV, Discovery, HGTV, History, Animal Planet and Discovery. She was an integral member of the production team of ‘Window Horses’ (NFB), an award-winning animated short spearheaded by writer/director Ann Marie Fleming and starring Sandra Oh and Elliott Page. Alexis has a proven track record as a storyteller, which is invariably reinforced by her strong working knowledge of all stages of production from development to delivery.

CATARINA BENNETT

Production Accountant

Catarina is an experienced production accountant with over 15 years in the film and television industry.  She has worked on many hours of documentary and lifestyle television productions including The Bachelorette Canada, Cheer Squad, Crash Gallery Season I & II, Paramedics: Life on the Line, Emergency Room: Life & Death at VGH Season I & II, Anna & Kristina Grocery Bags Season III & IV and over a dozen CBC Nature of Things documentaries.  Catarina is a full cycle production accountant who works through all the stages of television production from development, production, forecasting interim financing costs and managing interim financing activity, post production , audit preparation and tax credit estimation.   She also has a strong business background with a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC.

CAITLIN DOWLING

Senior Development Producer

Caitlin is a television researcher, story producer, and writer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. She has a master’s degree in Journalism from UBC and made the leap from newspaper and magazine reporting to documentary work in 2005. Her work includes the Emmy-nominated episode of ‘Dan Rather Reports’, ‘Green Scare’ on HD Net, research and story producing for ID channel’s ‘Very Bad Men’, and ‘The Devil You Know’, researching for ‘Kink’ on Showcase, and casting work for ‘Confessions: Animal Hoarding’ for Animal Planet. Before joining Small Army Entertainment in 2023, Cait has worked in development for several other Canadian production companies. She prides herself on her ability to find the stories worth telling, and the right people to tell them!
